Rachel and I went to Lethbridge for a mini-training camp on the weekend. We lucked out and found a great running guide in Greg. It was random and I am thrilled it worked out.
Greg knows his way around the Lethbridge coulees and he offered to lead our runs on the Lost Soul course. Our training camp consisted of covering around 35K of the 53K course. Part of the course is on private land so we were unable to give it a run.
If you squint, you can see race Rachel on the course and Greg in the distance. I was catching my breath before I made my descent.
We’re sharing a few laughs after a tough climb. Gosh it sure was hot. I hope my heat training will do the trick on race day.
Strike a pose. We had gorgeous views from all directions. I bought new sunglasses recently and I am so happy with them. The sun’s glare was very strong this weekend.
Whew! No sign of bears but we were startled by a buck rushing out of the bushes. Rachel was happy that she didn’t have to carry her bear spray.
I asked Greg to run ahead and turn around so I could take a picture. Really I was stalling so I could catch my breath.
Most of all, I’m so happy we went to Lethbridge for our mini-training camp. It was a good reminder of this challenging course. We have less than two months of training remaining. Running on the coulees is exactly what I needed to keep me motivated. I see a lot of hill repeats and middle of the day running in my near future. It’s going to be tricky when I am in Ottawa but I am going to make it work.
Time sure is flying. In about a month, I will be running the Iron Legs race with Amanda. It’s going to serve as one of my last long runs before Lost Soul. It should be a great training run. I just hope I don’t let Amanda down. We have 16 hours to finish 50 miles. Yikes!
