You gotta work

work

I’m keeping my training local this weekend. Last weekend I had spent way too much time behind the wheel. Often when I go away to the mountains for an entire weekend, I am screwed for the upcoming week. I don’t do my food prep, clean, read, study or do errands. Then I am playing catch up all week. It’s not fun.

I’m happy to say that I am not hurting anymore (that much). I hit all my mileage/run goals for the week. Yay me! Looking at the calendar is a great motivator. I have two months before Iron Legs and three months before Lost Soul! There’s no time like now to get my training butt in order. I don’t want to look back three months from now and whine about my lack of training.

No excuses.

This morning I took my time getting to Riverbend. I may have had three cups of coffee. Last night I was out with our local vegan group. It was a late night for me. (I also drank three beer.) I used to love lazing around Saturday mornings where I would read the newspapers and leisurely drink coffee. But once you become an endurance athlete, you have to really know how to manage your time. I won’t lie, there have been times where I would rather be in bed with a good book than out running. But once you put the money down and register for a race, you have to put in the time to train especially for these longer distance races. You have to if you want to reach your goals or to not get injured. Makes sense, right?

I squeeze in runs directly after work so there’s no excuses. It’s so easy to stay home after a tough day at work. I asked my coworker Jeff to take a picture of me outside our office. Instead we did a few silly videos. This one I call my Baywatch moment. I’m even carrying sunscreen (SPF 60).

I am a strong believer of keeping it fun while chasing your goals. You bet I was smiling for whole duration of my run! Speaking of fun, my pal Sue in Calgary always knows how to keep it on the light side. Check out her blog here

Peace.
