I was cruising down the trail when my foot caught on a root or a rock. I leaned into my fall so I wouldn’t do a face plant. I also kept my hands up because I have already broken both my wrists. Thankfully it was only a minor fall and nothing was sprained or broken. Rachel looked on the bright side immediately – Maybe you’ll have a nice big, bruise to show for it. (Only a trail runner would think that!)
I met Rachel for a trek up Moose Mountain on Sunday. I knew my legs would be toast after my 25K run on Saturday. But I thought what the heck, it’s going to be a beautiful day. Besides we haven’t chatted for a long time and it would be great to catch up.
Maybe it was because it was Mother’s Day but we didn’t come across many people at all. Of course the West Bragg Creek parking lot was jammed pack with mountain bikers. It started out as a warm day but once we made it to the almost top, it was bloody cold. My fingers were frozen and I regretted leaving my gloves at home. It started to rain while as we reached our vehicles.
I love Moose Mountain. I go up about 5 or 6 times in a season. I take the trail starting from the West Bragg Creek parking lot. I know I will be alone for the first 9K so I embrace the silence and cross my fingers that I don’t see any bears. When I run alone, I always carry my bear spray. Rachel has hers on Saturday so I knew we would be okay. I wasn’t counting on seeing any bears but we did come across the beaver dam. We watched a beaver at work. Rachel was pretty excited because it was her first beaver sighting.
We called it a day at the base of the fire tower for a 29K return. My right hip was moaning slightly so I have to double up on my rolling and stretching efforts.

I’d do more hiking if I lived in such a beautiful place! Although I’d probably wipe out there too! Hope your knee is feeling better.
