I ran local all weekend.
My plan was to run with Rachel in Kananaskis but life got in the way. My new grownup bed was slated to arrive sometime on Sunday. The delivery guys give you a three-hour delivery window. It’s not ideal but at least I got caught up on cleaning and I finally did my taxes while I waited.
Shannon joined me for a jaunt on the Blackfalds to Lacombe trail on Saturday. I ran an easy shake-out-the legs 10K around the Kerry Wood Nature Centre area on Sunday. As much as I love driving two hours to train in Bragg Creek, it’s nice to just roll out of bed and run in the city.
Crazy enough I wore shorts on Saturday while the next day I was forced to wear tights because it snowed. Snow in April. Go figure.
It feels so AWESOME to be running consistently. I haven’t felt this good in ages. My body is not me grief and I am not dreading the distance. I am back into that head space where I feel at odds when I don’t run. Love that feeling.
But I have to stay focused on my training. It’s easy to get into that I have lots of time to train and suddenly it’s six weeks before the next race. Gosh I can’t count how many times I have tried to play catch up on my training. Take it from me – it does not work.
August and September may seem like a long way off but it’s slowly creeping up on me. I am scared as heck but at the same time I can’t wait. I loved reading all the Boston Marathon race reports last week. Although I have flip-flopped on my desire to attempt to qualify for Boston, I can’t help but be inspired by these dedicated athletes.
Inspiration = Motivation.
Happy trails.
