I took an unplanned scale-back training week. I woke up on Monday morning feeling not so sun shiny. I slept on my neck wrong and you know how awkward that can feel. I went to yoga at 9:30 a.m. and I couldn’t even do the first breathing exercise, which involved moving your head and looking toward the back wall.
So that was it for yoga for the week. I started feeling slightly sickly the same day. It got the worse as the week went on. My coworker is out with a nasty flu so I likely caught what she has. I went home directly after work most nights and got into bed with a book. I hate missing work (all the big stories happen when I am off. Truth.)
All week I felt like a complete and utter blob. I always feel at odds when I do not get in any sort of exercise into my day.
Still on Wednesday I ran 5K with Shannon before work but I think it only made me first worse. I started to feel better on Friday so I ran an easy 6k after work. Today I feel almost like myself. I ran a windy 10K at an easy pace.
I am not at 100 per cent but I feel well enough to get out of my bed in the morning.
I covered a city event today where I ran into a few fans of my running column in the Red Deer Advocate. After getting over the initial shock of meeting a “fan,” I love chatting with my diverse readership. So far I have met (or received emails) from at least 10 non-runners who are enjoying my columns. (My plan is working. Bahhaaa! Turn everyone into a runner!) Usually I get the hate mail from the odd nutcase who isn’t happy with my reporting.
Anyway, here are my last three columns, if you’re interested. I apologize the newspaper’s website isn’t very ready sexy but a new one is supposed to be implemented in the coming months. (Also ignore my not-so flattering mug shot.)
I am going out for a long run tomorrow in Red Deer. I don’t have the energy to drive to the mountains this week. Besides it’s simply not practical to go every weekend. (Although I’ve been doing just that for the last six or so weeks.)
Happy trails my friends.
Peace.
It’s good to scale back, even if unintentionally. I bet next week you’ll feel awesome with the little break. Your body has a way of forcing you to take it easy. I love reading your columns and adventure through the week. You keep it short and sweet and I enjoy your style! Keep it up!
I’m sorry to hear that you were sick! Seems like the crud isn’t missing anyone this year. We just need it to warm up!
