Truth be told, I probably should not be signing up for any races until I am sure I can put in the training. I’ve been moderately increasing my mileage over the last few weeks. I haven’t really tested my legs with any real speed work. That will come after I get my endurance back to where it needs to be without causing any more damage to my body.
Consistency will be the name of the game for the next month.
Right so let me fill you in on my exciting news. I have signed up for THREE big fall races. I am so excited to be back into full-on training mode. (If you need me, I will be running.)
AUGUST
I think this is the race that scares and excites me the most – Iron Legs. I have teamed up with Amanda S. to run the 50-miler on a relay team, about 40K each. I’ve eyed this race for the last two years. I think it will be a great challenge and training for my next two races. Thankfully I have run in this area before (and plan to do lots more) and I have a little idea of the terrain. It’s going to be bloody hard.
SEPTEMBER
Once again I will be back in Lethbridge to challenge Lost Soul‘s 54K distance. I need to get this damn race out of my system. I really, really want to shave off a couple of hours off my disappointing finish time in 2013. I see a lot of hills in my immediate and long-term future. Thankfully I have some great training buddies this time around.
OCTOBER
Grizzly is an awesome race. Tony always puts on a great event. Tina, Tara, Susan and Kevin ran this race in 2013 as part of two separate teams. It was great to see them along the course and at the transition. If you want to run a fun ultra on a team, this is the one for you. (I never get picked on teams so I guess I will run the whole damn thing.) It will be great to see other running pals especially my old running coach Amber & her lovely hubby Darren! I don’t really have a goal for this race save for having some fun in a non-injury sort of way.
That’s it for BIG races in 2016. Unless of course Audrey and I get into the New York Marathon in November. We find out in March. No doubt I will throw in a 10k or a shorter trail runner. Maybe Rundle’s Revenge? Stay tuned.
What’s on your calendar for 2016?
No 5k races? :p

Hmm they don’t have any in Red Deer. Maybe … lol I have a hard time shelling out $50-$70 for a 5K race. I do want to run a race in Calgary this year. Keeping my options open!
Those are some BIG distances! Good for you. I’ll just watch from the couch.
