Losing my soul again

I ventured out for a two-hour run with the Running Room on Sunday. It officially marked the beginning of my training for Lost Soul 54K. It was a slower pace than I am used to but it’s winter after all. Time on feet is all that matters at this time of year. Speed training can wait until spring or on an indoor track.

I’ve set my expectations high for this race. I had to defer to 2016 because I am/was on the injury reserve list. I might as well go for it as this 54K* will be my “A” run for 2016. I want to make up for my big fail in 2014. It’s got to be better, right? I have basically eight months to get my sorry butt into shape.

I see A LOT of hills in my future. Oh yes, there will be some training in the heat. I don’t watch to be caught unprepared for the heat. It seems this weekend has been bloody hot these last few years in Lethbridge. I need to get a handle on running in the scorching temperatures.

The race organizers posted this map with the locations of the competitors. How cool? I just hope to know someone at the finish line. (People get a little weirded out when you start hugging them and crying uncontrollably on their shoulders.)

love this

I am excited about my training. I half-way through my yoga challenge and I feel great. I have already felt a difference in my running posture. I feel more upright so I don’t lean forward as much when I run hills. I am excited about the changes my body is going through. Eating raw for these past 17 days seems to be agreeing with me.

I did cheat once – with a taco. I had such a craving for beans one night (Day 14 at 8 p.m.) that I just gave in. But I am back on track and determined to keep going for another 13 days!

What is your  “A” race in 2016?

Will I see you at Lost Soul?

Cool name for a race too….

  2. WOOT!!!! That is wicked! I can’t wait to follow your training on this one. Right on.

  3. 2014 was not a fail, you did awesome. You had a lot of challenges that you pushed through to finish. I call that success! Now going into 2016 you can build on that experience. I’m still figuring out race plans for the rest of 2016 right now 🙂
