Rx for life: Sunday runs

I love Sunday morning runs! It’s the perfect way to cap off the weekend.

This past Sunday, I gathered up a group of runners from Red Deer to hit the road to Lacombe. We all agree it sucks to drive to run but the Lacombe trails are so beautiful and well-maintained. There’s always some trade offs.

The runners on this day included: Brent, Jose, Pedro, Oswaldo, Marys, Diane and her friend Kirstin. It was the first time on the trails for Jose and Marys. The rest had challenged Bill’s Trail Race so they were prepared for the beauty in store.

I was super impressed that Brent got up so early to run! I guess my constant nagging did its trick. (Thanks Sona.) Everyone seemed to love the morning run. We got in about 13K. I was happy that my body did not fall apart. Progress.

Of course the runners wanted to see the famous white bench. Diane and I always stop to pose for a photo. It’s become a quirk in our running routine. Here Diane and Kirstin humor me as I demand that they jump on the bench for a photo.

Pedro showed us – with ease – how to strike a pose on the bench. (Some people have all the yoga moves.)

What a happy and fit group! Thanks Diane for giving us a personal tour of trails. I’ve run in Lacombe now several times but I doubt I would be able to set a route like Diane. She’s awesome! And next year she is going to be a little more awesome when she challenges the Blackfoot 80K. So excited for her!
