It happens: The need to pee

I love my Altras. Love them. Love them. I can tell a huge difference between running in my road shoes versus my Lone Peaks. My toes love the wiggle room. Mind you I’m only running short distances right now but so far they are amazing.

While some people chose to run early or to sleep in, I watched the NYC marathon online. You may I ran the marathon in 2011. It was my first! Loved the experience. My favourite (almost) pal Regan from Ottawa also ran in 2011. She was back again this year. Of course I didn’t catch a glimpse of her online but it was still cool to know she was out there.

I drove to Riverbend for a nice run along the Perimeter Trail. The direct road to the trail has been closed all summer because the city was building a roundabout. Normally I wouldn’t care too much but since I have dialled down my mileage, I can’t really run there. Some days it felt like I drove more than I ran.

I took a few pictures down by the water after I ran. A man was taking photos of the flowing water.

It was such a beautiful day. My legs and feet felt great. I just wanted to keep running but I knew it was in my best interest to take it slow.

Riverbend is one of my favourite places to run in the city. But it is also a huge source of frustration. I drink a lot of water. Sometimes, I just have to go. These washrooms are in a perfect spot – 3.3K from my parking spot. The problem? They are NEVER open. (Okay they are sometimes in the summer.)

To add insult to my full bladder, two chained portable toilets are next to the washrooms. So this morning, I did what I usually do – find an isolated spot and did my business. If you have ever run here, you have probably caught me with my pants down. Fortunately I was alone this morning.

While I was down there, I decided to do a few squats (after I pulled up my tights). I was stopped anyway so I made the best of the situation. I did two sets of 25K before I turned around ran back to my car. In all, I got in 7K at an easy (let’s be honest here. My pace has been easy for months) pace.

I loved being out in the nature. The wind and trees were calling my name. Great way to cap a great weekend.

How was your weekend?

Have you ever been caught with your pants down?

I know, right? It drives me crazy!

  1. This is more likely to happen to me when it’s colder, which is also when facilities are more likely to be locked. Grrr. I confess that I’ve been caught out and needed to do the ‘full set’ al fresco.
