Running Shoe Alert: Fresh Foam Zante by New Balance

Nothing beats a solid playlist and a new pair of sneakers.

Enter New Balance’s Fresh Foam Zante. I was asked to review a pair of these hot new beauties. I have been in desperate need of new road shoes so I jumped at the opportunity. Besides these shoes were tapped as Competitor Magazineโ€™s 2015 Road Shoe of the Year and 2015 Best in Class by Triathlete Magazine.

I haven’t worn New Balance since I started running five years ago so it was nice for my feet to get back to their roots. Out of the three colour choices, I chose the less assuming grey and pink ones. Its design is simple and sleek, perfect for what I love in a design.

I grabbed my iPod filled with my latest Spotify playlist Sun Chaser. I don’t know about you but nothing fuels my run better than a solid playlist.
A perfect song can definitely turn around a bad run. Recently I was in a terrible kilometre and I just wanted to walk. But a few songs later, I found my running groove. (Right now I can’t get enough of Hozier’s Take Me to Church.) These days (and most days) I love to start out slow with a little Ben Harper before I move on to Bruno Mars.
Anyway I digress … getting back to New Balance’s latest running shoe โ€“ Fresh Foam Zante.
I set out in the morning air with a spring to my step. In fact there’s an immediate bounce to the shoes that makes you want to jump โ€“ so I did.
Its “bootie-like design” feels snug and comfy. New Balance did not hold back in designing these shoes but they did not add any extras to this shoe โ€“ “nothing is on the shoe that doesn’t need to be.” I didn’t feel the shoes on my feet while I was running. I just felt the cool breeze on my face as I ran kilometre after kilometre.

I know some people say you have to “work in” your new shoes. But I was told once if your shoes fit properly there should never have to be this working in period. These shoes fit perfectly. I had no hotspots or blisters after a two-hour run. I didn’t mind running in a 6 mm drop shoe again. I’ve been recovering from my injury and I didn’t feel any aches or pains after my run.
Love these shoes. I can see us spending many miles together as I continue to train for my races this year.
