Caution: More Injury Talk

My pelvis tilts forward. (Not recommended)
That’s the bad news. The good news is it’s game on.
It’s “fixable” but it will take time and dedication to my home program.

I finally got my butt into Collegiate Sports Medicine for an assessment. It didn’t take long for the phyisotherapist to reach a diagnosis. He told me my hips were even but I have anterior pelvic tilt (APT) due to muscle tightness.
Quads, glutes, hip flexors and hammies. You name it they are crazy tight. In fact my left side is so tight that my left leg is shorter than met right. Weird, right? Apparently it is very common for people who have office jobs and sit on their butts for the better part of the day.
After the telltale assessment, I worked through a few exercises and laser. Good times. The physiotherapist handed me a list of five exercises as part of a daily home program. Thankfully I am familiar with a few of them.

So why is APT bad? My physiotherapist read off a laundry list of problems. They range from bad posture, bad back, muscle imbalances, poor qlute strength and much more! I have been told by my crossfit coaches that I have APT. It is quite obvious when I squat. I lean forward because of this tightness and muscle weakness.

Ugh I know it is going to take a long time to fix this problem but I can’t ignore it. My physiotherapist said the impact and tightness likely caused the pain in my hip flexors. Rest will help but I have to attack these damn spots. I am crossing my fingers that using a stand up desk will help speed up my recovery process.

So that’s my Friday news.

  1. I have to laugh at the label you used, injury reserve list. Hopefully you can get it all worked out.

  2. My chiro informed me this week that I am suffering from OOW (Out Of Whack). I wouldn't even be surprised if there were a little APT mixed in with my OOW!! Looking forward to hearing all about your progress!

  3. Hey Crystal, I could totally copy and paste your post and sign my name at the bottom right now LOL. I just got a very similar diagnosis on Thursday. My hips and glutes and hamstrings are so tight my leg does feel shorter and I have the same tightness on the left side. The source of my problem is from my week medial Glute myscle. I was given a series of exercises and stretches to do and I already feel a little bit of relief. Rest up and speedy recovery to you!

    1. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel so "ugh" about it. I hate even talking about it. People think I am crazy! Hope you get well soon too!

  4. Hang in there girl! My RP has the same pelvic tilt thing, and with building really slow, doing a lot of ST/prehab/etc, she's running great again, so will you!!
