Embracing the suck

I pulled double duty on Saturday. I volunteered at a crossfit competition and took photos for the paper at the same time. It was exhausting watching super fit people workout. Bahhaa! Seriously I was zonked. I wanted to run but I decided to just call it an early night.

I ran on Thursday at lunch and I was limping after only a short & speedy 6K. I was a little apprehensive about Sunday’s run. I didn’t want to limp my way through 15K or 16K.

I met Dianne in Lacombe for another trail run. I haven’t run here enough to get sick of the trails. A few times, I got slightly disorientated. All those ponds/lakes looked the same. I’ll get it one day!
Elizabeth, Dianne’s phyisotherapist and runner friend, joined us for our 15K jaunt. She’s on Dianne’s Death Race team. Both are running Woody’s half-marathon next week. The day before, they ran 21K. So nice of them to take me out on the trails.

We kept at a moderate pace. I am happy that I managed to keep up with these runners. I’d like to run Saturday morning’s with the Lacombe group but it’s my only morning that I can sleep in. Anyway, I wasn’t limping too much during/after the run. Elizabeth gave me a quick assessment on my gait and my hip. (It sure pays to run with a phyisotherapist.)
I backed out of running Sin 7 in July. I am worried that I would let my team down. I am not convinced I would be “cured” in time for July. Maybe I will be but I won’t have had the long distance training that I need to do well.
C’est la vie. I hope to get in with Collegiate Sports Medicine this week. Got to get these hip flexors back in working order.

  1. Those look like great running trails! I too have been having hip issues. I cut my long run a little short last week and took a short run completely off and I was able to a half marathon yesterday with no pain on lots of hills. It really pays to listen to your body and give it breaks when it needs it. Hope you feel back to normal soon.

  2. Thank you for coming out on Sunday! We all go thru injuries. Keep up with the exercises and rest – You are an awesome runner and fabulous running buddy! Don't want to lose you. Hope to see you at Woodys!

  3. Hope your hip feels better soon! I've been feeling a bit weak, need to make sure I keep up with my stretches and strengthening exercises! You always have such beautiful trails to run to!
