I am sipping my coffee and scrolling through my timelines. I am meeting Steve later for a short recovery run. Yesterday I ran a quiet 28K along Red Deer’s streets and trails. Most of the trails are fairly clear of snow and ice. It was nice to see so many people out moving and grooving.
This week I received a friendly prerace email from the good folks at Blackfoot about the upcoming race. It seems there was a lot of interest in the race this year. There’s a huge waiting list. I am glad I didn’t delay and signed up right away.
We only have 75 days until race day! I am starting to get nervous because everytime I increase my distance or speed my right leg/achilles starts to bellow loudly. Yesterday I started to feel the discomfort around the 20K mark. I took my first ice bath of the season. It seemed to help because I am walking without a limp this morning. I am crossing my fingers that once I leave the pavement my legs will magically heal.
I’ll be spending a lot of time rolling and icing today too. On my run I listened to a great Trail Runner Nation podcast about the importance of patience in ultrarunner. It was a great reminder that I have to be patient in my training and recovery. Nothing happens overnight.
Meanwhile I came across this lovely video on my timeline. It’s a great reminder that the beauty in life is better witnessed and enjoyed in true form than behind a screen. Next weekend I plan to head to the mountains.
How ironic that, while perusing your timeline, you come across a video which says to ignore your timeline!! Enjoy the mountains, how wonderful to have that option!
Thanks! It sure is!
That's too bad that your achilles is acting up. But at least you are still a good few months away so you can take care of it. When my shins are achy/painful I use my heat packs – it loosens up the muscles and relaxes them so they're not tight and pulling on my shin. Same applies to the calves. Hope your pain settles down soon.
Thanks! I usually use ice. Maybe it's time to shake things up and use heat.
