Monday: Training Update

Since My iPhone has died (and needed a hard reset) on my last three runs,  it will not be coming out with me again this winter. It’s not worth the reboot. I’d rather concentrate on my running than worrying about getting a cute shot of my soaked feet.
You know what? I feel amazingly ligher on many levels sans mobile phone. I don’t miss it at all. I can’t remember when I started carrying my iPhone on runs.
I blame Twitter and Instagram. Damn you all telling social media tools. Sure I suppose it’s good for safety reasons but it’s more of a burden than anything. Besides haven’t you seen enough of my foot selfies?
Ramble done.
Time to give you a run down on my training.

It’s been going great.

Last week I went to crossfit four times and I ran about 40 kilometres. I’m still in the low mileage stage as I work on strength and maintaining my endurance.  I think not drinking is having a huge effect on my sanity. Yes I didn’t drink that much but I could polish a bottle with the best of them in a blink of an eye.

It’s just not worth it. Even one or two glasses of wine ruins my sleep for the night. And the next day my head feels heavy. Maybe I’m allergic to wine? (The horror. Shudder.)
Anyway … I digress. Back to training.
My hill workouts are going great. I really think the work I put in now will make a big difference come spring. I just have to stay the course. It’s super easy now with the spring-like weather. As always the real challenge will come when the temperatures take a nose dive. I am getting in those back-to-back runs which are helping me mentally and physically.

As I mentioned I went to crossfit four times this week. The WODs were bloody awful. Every single one featured my weaknesses – upper body strength. I wanted to cry by Thursday but I kept at it. Here’s a pic of Tuesday’s WOD. (Sorry for the crap quality. I wanted to erase this one from my memory!) It was just plain mean. I graced the bottom of the whiteboard two days in a row. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)
Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger …. (Please let this be true!)
This week? Lots more of the same.
Happy trails!

  1. I've started carrying my phone around with me on my solo runs but you are right, it feels amazing running without it. It kind of feels like a crutch sometimes because I'm spending time on my run not running because someone is calling/texting me ):

  2. I only carry my phone on Sunday runs as my wife thinks I'm going to get eaten in the nearby park without it..
