Back to Training

I gave myself a month to recover both physically and mentally after my handful of races this year. As of Saturday, I am back in the “training” mode.

This winter I will focus on improving my climbing skills. Last week I started my once a week hill training. It wasn’t very pretty but I got it done with some help from Steve. I have strong legs but they could be a lot stronger.

I have an ambitious race schedule lined up for 2015. The first race will be Blackfoot on May 30 – in six months. It’s not overly hilly but it will be a good jump into the season. I know it’s going to be a long winter but there’s nothing I can do about it. (Other than looking on the bright side!)

I delved back into A Guide to Running Ultramarathons by Byron Powell. Lots of great stuff in the pages. I’m going to follow the 50 miles or 80 kilometres a week training plan. I’m looking forward to those back-to-back runs on weekends. Ive managed to run with the local Running Room group for three weeks now on Sundays. It helps that I offered to pick up Laura. (Commitment!) We haven’t run more than 10K so far but that’s okay. The schedule calls for the longer of the two runs on Saturday. So that should work out in the end.
I am looking forward to having a set schedule that I am going to really, really follow. (I’m pretty loosey goosey when it comes to my training.) I will post more information about my training in the coming weeks.
Wish me luck!
