First snowy run of the season

I wanted to hold onto the memory of spring/summer/fall running a little bit longer. I was dragging my feet for that inevitable first winter run. Yes I know once you take that first step out the door, it’s a lot easier to get out there again and again.

But that first step is always the most challenging.

It was only -13C when we set out on Tuesday. I had dressed in three layers on top and bottom. I wasn’t ready for the blast of cold weather just yet. My fingers felt the crisp air when I removed my gloves to snap a few pictures.

I don’t like to run directly after a snowfall because like I mentioned earlier, it’s a game of frustration. The roads and sidewalks not plowed which makes for a  really annoying run. I tend to wait until the plows are out. I’m on a school route which is usually one of the first on the city’s priority list. Yay!

We headed out on the city streets for a cool 5 miles. We were lucky because the sidewalks did not have much snow and ice. My Salomon Speedcross worked like a charm. I am relieved because I absolutely do not like these shoes on bare trail. I felt they were way too heavy after wearing my lovely Saucony Peregrine. I didn’t waste my money afterall. They are going to be great shoes for the winter.
So happy to be back at it again. My legs seemed to have recovered. Rest is good. Rest is good.

  1. Glad to hear it went well! No snow here yet but soon, judging by the forecasts….

  2. Awesome that the Salomon's are going to be good winter shoes! I hate to waste money on things. Isn't it funny how freezing this cold snap has felt when there is far worse to come!

  3. Good for you. I haven't ventured out yet, I'm not ready! Maybe this weekend though.

  4. It hasn't snowed much in Ottawa yet – Although I'm still in "recovery land" after the marathon, I want to try and get out and run as much as I can before the snow starts. The sidewalks around my house are never plowed and even if they do manage to go down my street, it is covered in ice. Not fun!
