Running, Yoga & Raw Food … Oh my!

It’s Monday which means it’s back to work. I have been off for the last two weeks. Now it’s time to get back to the grind and training for my next big race. Yesterday I decided to run with the Running Room group. My friend Laura is a regular at the Sunday runs. But yesterday she was running the New York City Marathon. I was so excited for her!

Her pals at the Running Room organized an in-store picnic for after the group run. The marathon was broadcast on a television in the store. Everyone gathered around and watched the runners come in. Others were tracking Laura on their iPhones and iPads. It was so cool to see the support!

After the unexpected picnic, I went home and got to work. I had to food prep for the week. It kept me busy for about three hours before I met Christine for a 9K walk. While it was snowing in Calgary, the sun was shining in Red Deer. I didn’t want to waste the glorious day.

I whipped together a quinoa/buckwheat “pizza crust.” I ignored the toppings on the original recipe and went with my homemade hummus, roasted pumpkin seeds and newly grown alfalfa sprouts. Tasted awesome. I was so happy with the turnout! I also made some zucchini/chia crackers but they are still dehydrating so I can’t tell you how they tasted yet.

Finally I went to the 6 p.m. yoga class. I don’t think I drank enough water (okay I know I didn’t drink enough) before class. I felt slightly dizzy during a few of the postures. I felt fine the first two classes so I know my body was not properly hydrated. Got to make sure this doesn’t happen again. I haven’t decided how many times a week I am going yet. Likely I will go two-three times during the week and on Saturday and Sunday.

I’m looking forward to going back to work today. (Did I really just type that?) I feel refreshed and ready to get back to the newspaper. My jaw finally feels better. I don’t think it will fully heal for another month or so but I am just happy the pain is gone. I’ve never taken so much Advil before in my life. I can understand how people can get addicted!
Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend.

  1. It's an awful feeling when you're not properly hydrated for Bikram. I think that's why a lot of people absolutely hate the first class and decide to never go again.
