Too early? Got 2015 on my mind

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I don’t know about you but I have totally fallen for autumn. It’s my favourite time of year to run. I wish it lasted longer. Winter stay away!

Lately I have been thinking about next year’s races. Is it too early? Isn’t it funny how after a race you immeditely start thinking about another one? Must be love. One thing is for sure, I plan on running more trail races than ever in 2015. I grabbed my notepad and jotted down some potential races. Registration has not opened for most so I haven’t committed to anything. (Please ignore the crappy picture of my notebook and my horrible handwriting)

You will definitely find me back in Lethbridge for Lost Soul again. A few others are on my radar – Bighorn 50K and Iron Legs 60K. I was also asked to be part of a Sinister 7 team. I am still scoping out things for next year. I would love to do a 50K in January or February (but not in cold Alberta). I keep thinking it would be great to be at 50K shape before the snow melts? Besides I really need a goal to focus on in the cold months.

This Thursday I am back with my I am a Runner series. I took a little break in the summer. This week I am featuring Igor from Brazil who is in Central Alberta for work. He recently finished his first 100K at Lost Soul. I’m positive you will find his story interesting.
Have you started thinking about 2015 races? What’s on your radar?

Do you have any suggestions for a late-January/February race?

  1. Obviously the Ottawa Race Weekend is on my list – because I've run it every year for 5+ years. I will be doing the 10K this year. Registration is already up, but I won't be registering for a bit.

    1. I am DYING to do Ottawa. But it's always the weekend right before summer semester's midterm #1!

    2. I need to get to Ottawa to run. I ran the 10K twice there but I was never a runner when I lived there. I would love to run a marathon there one day.

  2. I am doing the exact same thing – mapping out my races for next year. I want to get another marathon under my belt but I kind of want to try my hand at triathlons. It will be interesting to figure out how to balance the two!

    1. OOh triathlon would be great. Yeah it would be a challenge to balance the two training plans.

  3. I'm wondering what's next for me too! I've never run a trail race, maybe I need to find a nice "easy" one to get my feet wet in 2015! It'll be here before you know it!

  4. I got the Canadian 2015 Race booklet thing and went through it bookmarking EVERY race I wanted to do. of course it's not reasonable to do all of them but I like having options!

  5. Amazing, it's never too early! We're registered for SeaWheeze already in 2015.

  6. 2015?! Girl, I have my A race already solidified for 2016!
In answer to your question, I am signed up and ready to run both Boston and Transrockies. I think it helps with the winter motivation in training…

  7. Sounds like a great plan so far for 2015. I have recently gotten into trail racing, so I see more of that in my future in 2015!! I have nothing planned yet though, I start a new job next week and need to see how my life is impacted first!

  8. Not too early. Sounds great. I have a half planned for Jan 17 and one for May 9 and who knows what in between.

  9. Never too early!! I've registered for the SeaWheeze in Vancouver (Aug) but am just making lists for all those not open yet. Would like to do the Blackfoot Baby Ultra again (May), and possibly the Rocky Mountain Soap races (May). Will def do some 5 Peaks again. Must start checking out other options.

    1. That's part of the fun – scoping out all the races! I would do more if I didn't have to work weekends.
