My garden grows.
At first I was worried. I was nervous. I called my aunt in Nova Scotia for gardening tips. What do I do with a hoe? How do I plant (or is it sow) the seeds?
What did I know about planting seeds?
It’s been so long since I have been anywhere near a garden. Growing up, I paid little attention. I watered and weeded when told. It’s funny how things come back around.
Enough rain fell to get things growing when I first planted after the May long weekend. Now we’re into Day 11 or so of a dry and humid spell. I love the hot weather but my spinach did not. It bolted before I had a chance to pick it all. It was good while it lasted. Next year I will have to pay a little more attention to the spinach.
My lettuce and green swiss chard are growing so quickly that I can barely keep up. I gave Harley and his family some greens last week. I may have to give more away this week. I like sharing the green goodness. My carrots have finally started to show signs of life and the beets are also growing well.
I have been eating a lot of salads lately. Usually I like spinach as a base but my lettuce is so tasty that I can’t eat enough! Renee keeps telling me to take some of her kale. Her rows of peas, corn and greens are doing amazing too. Who would have thought that we would be such awesome gardeners?
My smoothies haven’t tasted better! It’s great not having to go to the supermarket for fresh greens. As you know I eat a lot every day. It’s also very rewarding to grow your own stuff. And it’s not as much work as I thought it would be. Next year I will step it up a bit and plant other vegetables.
Do you have a garden? Do you go to the farmers’ market? What’s your favourite vegetable ?
Wow, I wish I was your neighbour! Your garden is so lush!!! I don't think I would know how to grow veggies. I grew a couple of herbs on my windowsill but that's the extent of my edible gardening…lol.
I'm terrible at Gardening – flowers and veggies! Your garden looks awesome! I've successfully killed tomato plans the last two years but am giving Basil a try this year – so far so good! I love Farmer's Markets.
