I have been on my feet A LOT since I arrived in Calgary yesterday afternoon. I’ve gone to the expo twice, attended the VIP event at the Calgary Tower, ran the friendship run and walked everywhere.
Time to put my feet up and relax. I am super tired. Falling asleep tonight should not be an issue. I would go to bed right now if I didn’t have to eat in a couple hours. Yesterday my meals were hours apart – something I try to avoid. Today was no better. I should have eaten after I returned to the friendship run. My mistake.
I wasn’t planning on going to the Friendship Run but John Stanton told me that he would take the group pass my hotel and make me get up. How could I say no to the face and founder of the Running Room?
Besides John promised that I could run with some of the elite runners. He said I could run with him anytime and that I should run with the fast guys. How could I pass that up?
So here I am after our 3K jaunt around Eau Claire in Calgary. It was nice to shake my legs out. I chatted with Lanni a bit about running. I had met Kip (on my right) at the event on Friday night. Super nice guy who is aiming for Rio 2016. I didn’t speak with Duncan (far left) but he was happy to pose.
Speaking of being starstruck, I met the amazing Sam Effah. He’s a two-time Canadian 100m champion. His time is 10.05 for the 100m dash. Donavan Bailey is 9:84 and Usain Bolt runs a blistering 9:58. I admit I had no idea who Sam was until today but now I am a big fan. He’s handing out medals at the marathon tomorrow. He promised a hug!
It was great re-connecting with Audrey today. But it was a really busy day. Time flew by. I am trying to calm my nerves and stay focused. I feel behind the eight ball because I haven’t raced since December. I am sure I will be fine once I start running. The race atmosphere around the hotel and expo has been great. You can’t help but be excited.
We’re having dinner at 4 p.m. with Brent and Sona and Doug. I hope to be back on this bed ready for sleep time by 7 p.m. Wish me luck!
Crystal I am so excited for you!!! Good luck tomorrow! have fun and run smart!
Thanks!
