Fast times at …. Lindsay Thurber High

All week I have been looking forward to running around in circles. Just kidding … I really had force my tired body and convince my foggy mind that it would be in my best interest to hit the outdoor track.
I had Brent for company last week but he’s injured so it was just me. I ran 3K to the track as part of my warm up. Once I reached the high school, I did some dynamic stretches and strides to get my head into the game. There was a guy finishing up when I approached the track. Praise Buddha he was left before I started. I hate an audience.
Oh but I did have one fan who stayed throughout my workout.

Shouting out words of encouragement and sometimes abuse, he did not leave this spot until I had finished my 6x800m repeats. He did not hold back. Folks, I may have found my new coach.

I didn’t know how my legs would react to today’s challenge. They had a tough week that involved weighted lunges and squats and running. Surprisingly they were up for the challenge. Last week when I ran 800s, I had tummy problems and my times were not on pace. Today I made sure my food was properly digested.

I wore my hydration waist pack because it’s easy to remove. It shifts a lot which is a major pain in the butt. So anyway … I ditched the pack and set out for my 800m intervals. I wasn’t gasping for air but every single interval was not easy. A few times I had to put a muzzle on my negative self-talk. I pushed through to nail some sweet times (for me anyway!).

This workout was exactly what I needed to boost my confidence. Last week was not a good week. I started questioning my training and my sanity.

I know most runners question their training every now and then, right? I’ve been here before and likely I will be there again. To those who left comments, thanks so much for your encouragement. I think I have finally snapped out of my funk.

  1. Way to push through on your workout! I wish there was an awesome outdoor track like that close to me

  2. Good work! I probably could have Googled this, but how many times around the track is 800 meters? And do you just wear your normal run shoes?
