How’s your balance?

It’s no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Trail Runner Nation. One of my favourite guests Sally McCrae, an ultra runner and coach, appears on the show quite often. (Check out her blog.)
On Saturday’s long run, I listened to the latest TRN podcast that featured Sally and a few of her Nike teammates. During the show, Sally said one of the best exercises that all runners should do is this funky one leg squat thingy. There’s been many times in my recreational running career where if it weren’t for my strong core I would have fallen flat on my face after tripping on a root or slipping on ice.

After my run I checked out Sally’s YouTube channel. I placed my kettlebell in the middle of my room and tried to mimic the exercise. I had to really focus to get my balance. Talk about challenging! It reminded me that I should work on my pistols too!

My balance and mobility has taken a nose dive in recent years. I guess that’s the price of getting older. But I do pay more attention to these things as I delve further into Crossfit and as I focus on improving my pace and gait. Any advice and tips to improve my balance are appreciated. I’ve already added this simple exercise to my day.

How’s your balance? Try this exercise and tell me how you did.
