Marathon Monday: Calgary Marathon (Week 13 Training Recap)

My week did not looking promising when I woke up to a sore throat and gross cough on Monday. Thank Buddha, I turned around my wicked cold in four days. Rest is an amazing thing.

I didn’t make any friends at Crossfit on Monday and Wednesday with the sound of my gross cough echoing through the box. I had no choice but to go because of my three-month contract. On Thursday I was feeling better so I stuck around for an extra class after mobility. My right foot has been acting up again so I took it easy with the box jumps and the jump rope. Like I mentioned last week, I feel pretty good about my progress in crossfit these last six weeks.

We were finally blessed with warmish temperatures on the weekend! I took advantage and ran three straight days. My Friday run was gross but I felt much better on Saturday and Sunday. Time is ticking out! Calgary is only 82 days away!

Week 13 Breakdown:

Monday: Crossfit – 7 RFT: 25 KBS (16 kgs) + 15 Push Press (55 lbs). Cash out: 50 alt lunges
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: Crossfit – As many rounds as possible with partner in 8 mins: 10 pull ups, 10 burpees then 12 minute work up to 1 RM Squat Clean (We made it to 85 lbs before the time was up)
Thursday: Crossfit & Mobility – 21-15-9 deadlift at 135 pounds & box jump (20 inches). 100 DUs (or straight skip on one foot in my case). Cash out: partner burpee box jump 5×10
Friday: 8k tempo run
Saturday: 25K LSD
Sunday: 8K (I met Brent to run the second half of his long run)

Let’s all cross our fingers together. I really, really want to get back to this training plan. It’s been somewhat of a flop so far. Still lots of time to turn it around. Go on now, send your positive, happy vibes my way!

  1. I feel like I've written this on so many blogs lately but, "Glad you are feeling better!" Gotta love cold/flu season :S

You had a great week of work outs though! Getting that 25k in must have felt great?! I'm always nervous of shin splints when I watch people do box jumps…lol. I used to get them chronically!!! My PT told me to avoid jumping, but I'm envious of people who can do them pain free. 🙂 You go!

  2. Woo hoo for feeling better! That probably helps training just a wee bit 🙂

  3. Glad the cooties did not stick around very long! you go!!! sounds like a good week all in 🙂

  4. Sending positive vibes your way! Looks like your illness didn't slow you down at all though-awesome job! 🙂

  5. Wow – week 13 – that is wicked awesome! Is crossfit a good cross training option for running? I've considered taking it up for a month or so to get a feel for it…
