Making that #OneChange in 2014 with Vega One

Like everyone I know … my diet could use a little tweaking. Some days I am spot on with the right mix on the nutritional pyramid. Other days I realized I’ve skipped breakfast and I make up for it by snacking all day on office food. (If you work in an office you will understand coworkers usually do not bring in the healthiest treats)

I have BIG goals this year. And I know if I want to crush my fitness and career goals this year, I have to pay more attention to what and when I am putting into my body. Making huge declarations without a concrete plan does not work. I know this from experience. That’s why so many people fail at following through on their new year’s resolutions.

One of the biggest areas in my life that I need help with is in the mornings. I have all the good intentions in the world to start my day off with a hearty breakfast but after a late night and a bad sleep … I can’t get my act together in the morning. The only thing on my mind is beating the clock and the traffic. I have read all the stuff that says breakfast is the most important meal of the day BUT it has never fully sunk in my brain.

I have to shed my breakfast skipper rep once and for all. I need to make at least #OneChange every day to improve my life. Pronto.

SAY HELLO TO VEGA ONE

I have joined the joint Vega One and Fit Approach challenge to make #OneChange for a healthier lifestyle with the Vega One Nutritional Shake. I tested a new flavour – French Vanilla. I was skeptical at first because I tried the Vega One protein powder a few years ago and I wasn’t completely sold with the taste. The all-in-one shakes come in flavours such as Chocolate, Vanilla Chai and Berry. I wanted to give the products another try anyway because I eat a plant-based diet already.

Maybe this could be the #OneChange that I needed to overhaul my lack luster morning eating habits and set me on the path to taking better care of myself?

(For those of you who have never heard of Vega One, I’ll give you a quick synapses. Vega One is a 100% plant-based protein that contains no soy or dairy or gluten and no sugar is added. Vega One makes protein powders, bars and all-in-one nutritional shakes. Read the Vega story here.)

The Good News?

I love green smoothies. Downing a smoothie in the morning would not be too much of a challenge but sticking to the plan would be (as my past life shows). I usually stick with the water + greens + fruit combination. I wasn’t sure how the French Vanilla all-in-one nutritional shake would taste so I took the safe route and scored a recipe from the massive and wicked Vega One recipe database. (Check out Vega’s AWESOME recipe centre.)

THE TEST & THE TASTE

I decided to make the Viva La Vanilla smoothie. I sorted the ingredients – Spinach, Milk, Banana, Vega One – the night before and made a clear path on my counter to my Vitamix.

The next morning I was rushed (as usual) but I quickly threw the ingredients into the Vitamix and cranked up the volume while I searched for my keys. I poured some in a glass and took a big gulp. It tasted AWESOME. You know how some shakes make you want to rinse your mouth right away? Not Vega One. I didn’t get an aftertaste and I was left feeling refreshed. LOVED it! It didn’t taste chalky like other shakes seem to but more natural and refreshing.

I took the rest to work with me and I drank at my desk. I felt good but also … satisfied. The powerhouse of nutrients in the shake seemed to curb my cravings. I was more focused and able to concentrate on work instead of counting down the minutes until lunch time. I felt AWESOME.

I still had a few late nights but I still managed to prep my stuff the night before and enjoy a refresthing and satisfying smoothie. Over the week I got more adventurous with my smoothies. My favourite creation is Mango Madness Smoothie. My recipe calls for mango, spinach, grapes, Vega One and water. Just blend & go.

I am really, really impressed with the Vega One all-in-one shake. Adding an all-in-one nutritional powerhouse to my smoothie is a big plus. There’s no fuss and I don’t have to think too much about what I am doing. That’s a good thing, right? I am so happy that took the plunge with Vega One. I am plant-based eater already and I am happy to try the product again after my first not so wonderful experience. Next on my list is to go back to the protein powders and check out the bars. (Maybe stash a few in my desk at work).

Are you ready to make #OneChange? Are you like me? Rushed in the morning and eating breakfast is the last thing on your mind? I bet you could find something that works for you by making #OneChange with Vega One.

Go for it!
