Something cool happened in Red Deer today – a world-class cycling event zoomed through Red Deer streets. The inaugural Tour of Alberta got underway on Tuesday. Red Deer was the host for the second finishing stage. How cool is that?
When I was younger I really, really wanted to be a sports reporter. Like most people who love sports, I wanted to cover the games and the athletes full-time. I didn’t pursue it seriously enough. Whenever I get the chance to write a sports-related story, I jump at the chance. But I realize quickly it is not all fun and games. It is definitely work.
I am not a cycling fan but I do appreciate elite and professional athletes. That’s one reason why I’ve been covering the event since it was announced months ago. I had the cool job of hanging out at the festival and talking to fans all day. It was tiring work but somebody had to do it.
