Thou Shall Run

I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of pouring rain. I ignored it and went back to sleep. So what if I would have to break out my rain gear for my morning run. Sometimes I have no motivation. Today I had THIS MUCH. I’ve been looking forward to this run since I finally touched down in Alberta on Saturday. I didn’t care if I would be soaking wet. I shall run.

While I did get a few runs in while on vacation, I was in no way training. I just ran to run. But I have to get back into groove. I have 3 races in September (more in a post later this week) and I have to get my sorry butt moving.

I set my alarm for 7:30 a.m. I wanted to run at 9 a.m. the latest. I’m back at work today so I wanted to have time to run & make my lunch. Being rushed on Monday can set the tone for the whole week.

Miraculously my Garmin came back to life. Sometime last week it died during a run. I tried to revive it but had no luck. I’m crossing my fingers it lives a longer life because I can’t afford to buy a $400 watch right now.

I took about 15 minutes to warm up and wake up before I set out on the trails. I chose to run a 5K tempo to ease into the training. My legs were feeling fine. My right foot was a little wonky but I ignored the discomfort. (I knew it wasn’t serious). I kept my pace in check (under 5:00 to 5:30 per kilometre). I felt amazing.

What a way to start the week! After the run I held a plank for 2 minutes, did 50 sit ups and stretched my legs.

Happy Monday, folks! I hope you lot have a great start to your week too.
