Running in the Fast Lane: Speed Work

It’s easy to come up with excuses not to do speed work. My legs are tired. I am hungry. I’m lazy. But tonight I had no excuses. In fact I was super excited to get moving. The sun was shining and I had been stuck at my desk all day. Time to get out and make haste.

But wait I had a small hiccup. I forgot my socks. I unsuccessfully tried to convince my coworkers to lend me their socks. Running sans socks is not fun. Last time I ran without socks, I developed some crazy blisters.

I set out knowing there was nothing I could do about this. Mind over matter.

After my 2k warmup, I ran some short intervals: 8×30 seconds and 4 x 1 minute with 30 seconds rest between each interval.

I felt great. There’s  something about running fast. You can barely catch your breath but you know it won’t last because soon the Garmin will beep. Truth be told, I felt great for the first few sets and the others … so-so.

This week I am easing back on the Crossfit WODs and adding more running into my week. I am a runner first after all. Weather is great so this should not be a problem.

Happy Tuesday.
