May goals – My first ultra & setting a new PR

Gosh where did the time fly?

May is here. I have two serious goals this month.

1) Set a new PR for my 10K distance

2) Cross the finish line at my first 50K ultramarathon

Crazy, right?

Truth be told, I didn’t pull these goals out of my butt. I’ve been training (somewhat) since I signed up for Blackfoot in January. Now the winter has not been great for my morale or my training but I kept on. I’m feeling good about the ultra. I know it won’t be easy and it will probably be painful but I am ready for the challenge.

I’m not so sure I will reach my 10k goal (48 minutes) but I am going to give it my best. My PR in a race is 51 minutes and in training 50 minutes. The race is in 16 days, a week before my ultra. I haven’t concentrated on speed until this week. It’s been that crappy outside. (I’m not a dreadmill runner). Thanks to CrossFit, I feel strong. We’ll see what happens. And if I don’t hit it this time, I have lots of time to get it this season.

And there you have it! What are your running goals for May?
