Run like a cheetah

Call me cheetah. Running fast feels so good. It has been too long. If you live in Alberta,  you will understand why. Not to dwell on the poor show of spring but Mother Nature has not been kind. Snow. Ice. Cold. You name it. Then hit repeat.

I am really happy to have some good speed on my feet this week. Time is ticking before my 10K and my 50K races.

Feeling the need for speed too? Here are my rules for running fast:

1. Warm up. Nothing beats muscles that are primed and ready to go. I like to run for 10 or 15 minutes before I kick it into second gear.

2. Have a plan. Just Google How to Run Fast and you will get a zillion results. Find one that works for you and get to it. I like to follow some of the CrossFit Endurance WODs for my speedwork. Find out more information here.

3. Location, location, location. I like to find a nice flat spot for my repeats. For my regular tempo or faster runs the route doesn’t really matter to me. I love the track for my time trials and for repeats too. Takes out all the guess work.

4. Accept the hurt. Find your comfort zone. Now ignore it. If you’re training to run faster, if you have to run FASTER. You can’t run the same pace again and again and presto on race day you’re USAIN BOLT. Not going to happen. Run fast to be fast.
