I hopped out of bed at 6 a.m. Took one look out the window and I got back under the covers. Snow had fell over night and it was still snowing. What’s this? It’s spring. Why is there a foot or two of white stuff on the ground? Enough.
I slept for a few more hours before I got up. I made some coffee and read for about an hour. It was still snowing but I knew I had to run. No way around it. I read a few tweets about other runner’s races and runs that morning. Straight away this got me moving.
I texted Karen about her run. Her response wasn’t encouraging.
By then I was already dressed and ready to get trekking. I knew it wouldn’t be pretty. But I had to suck it up and get over myself. It wasn’t cold out, just snowy.
I didn’t set a distance for my run. I just knew it was important to have time on my feet. I’m not a huge fan of running with wet feet but I sucked it up because it was inevitable. I ran two loops of an 8k route. I was pressed for time so I only had an hour and a half to get some miles on my feet. Despite the snow, I had a super nice run. It was refreshing. Don’t get me wrong, I am SO DONE with winter.
Trying to do speed work on snowy trails is not fun or nice. This week I am crossing my fingers the snow melts and stays away until next winter. This extra long winter is not helping with my training!
