CrossFit Open at Ignite

I’m finally getting around to writing this post on the CrossFit Games. Last weekend I watched some of the Ignite athletes do 13.1, the first WOD of the Open.
Here’s a complete breakdown of the Games (and the first WOD).
Simply put: The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games. It runs from March 6 to April 7 in boxes around the world. In the Open, athletes do one WOD over five weeks for a total of 5 WODs. A local judge will watch and submit the score to the games people. The results are posted on the CrossFit Games leaderboard. At the end of the Open, the best advance to the Regionals (May 17 to June 9). After the regionals, the best advance to the Games (June 22 to June 28).

Megan has trained all year for the games. She trained with Ignite’s games’ team. They are a hardcore bunch. Megan’s super nice. She’s also going to be teaching classes in the next few months.

This is Wade, my favorite Ignite coach. He only coaches on Saturday morning so I never get to see him. Out of all the coaches, I think he knows his stuff the best. Plus he’s super encouraging. I told his wife Dana, I would do the Open in 2014 if she did.

Catherine got peer pressured into do the open. She did really good for someone who didn’t train. Her brother, Justin, also did the workout at the last minute. I’m glad I wore jeans. There was no way I was going to be embarrassed in front of a bunch of people I didn’t know. It’s bad enough I suffer humiliation at 6 a.m four times a week at the box!

Secretly I wish I were competing! But I am totally not ready. It hasn’t been a full year since I started going to the regular classes and consistently. That’s the key. I’ve had some gains and I have gone regularly. I’m just not strong enough. I would love to work toward that goal for next year – do the open.  But that’s a long way off and a lot can happen in that time. Must say it is quite motivating to watch the Ignite athletes and the best in the world on the CrossFit website.
