Four month shedding challenge

Everyone laughed when I announced I was going on a four-month weight-loss challenge with a friend. They laughed saying “you don’t need to lose weight with all the running you do.” Umm … sadly I do.

I don’t have a problem when it comes to exercise. I have terrible eating habits. On the whole I eat healthy – little processed food & mostly green goodness. But I don’t eat regularly. I skip meals (not on purpose). I also turn to food when I am bored or lonely or depressed (which in the latter is A LOT). I’m in the need of a complete diet shake up.

(In the interest of privacy, I am changing my friend’s name to Spicy.) I went to Spicy’s place after work for our big weigh in. I’ve never been one to step on a scale so it was a whole new world for me. The scale calculated our weight, BMI and body fat percentage. My numbers were ugly. I’m too embarrassed to post them. (Maybe I will when I reach my goal – a before and after photo)

We also took our “before” photo. I stripped down to my bathing suit while Spicy wore shorts and a t-shirt. A picture of myself in a bathing suit is motivation enough!

THE PLAN
I’m not counting calories. I am going to eat three solid meals with healthy snacks. No chocolate. No skipping meals. More water. I am okay in the exercise department but I am going to throw in more stretching and core work this month. I am writing down what I eat every day in a book to stay motivated too.

THE GOAL
My starting weight is 147. Over the next 4 months, I want to shed 20 pounds. I think it is completely reasonable to shed 5 pounds a month. Each month we will meet at Spicy’s place for a weigh in. I am excited to have someone along for my journey. I think it will help us both over the next few months.
