I signed up for a Spartan Super in Red Deer even though this race is a month away from my only marathon this year. I am not worried about getting hurt or tiring myself out. This will be SUPER fun. And it’s in my town so I don’t have to get up ridiculously early to drive somewhere.
I’m slotted for the 10 a.m. Crossfit/Community heat. Not sure if that is wise or if it makes a difference. Likely I will be racing against a lot of super fit people. I always like a good challenge.
(In August, I am also competing in the Spartan Sprint with Tara in Calgary)
Here’s the lowdown from SpartanRace.com:
- An obstacle course race is designed to test your resilience, strength, stamina, quick decision making skills, and ability to laugh in the face of adversity.
- 8+ miles of trails, mud and 20+ obstacles designed by ultra athletes and a marine
I am crossing my fingers that all this strength training through Crossfit will help me survive. I heard a few people fret about the run. Meh. I am more worried about the obstacles. Not sure if I am ready to scale walls like spiderman just yet.
I'm register for that heat too. I really need to work on my running for it. I've never ran that distance before. I'm super excited for it though. I hope next year to go for the Spartan Trifecta.
That sounds really cool. I think a lot of people have signed up for it. We were just talking about it this morning. I'm more worried about the strength part. Should be a blast!
