Snowshoeing in Kananaskis

I rented snowshoes from the Outdoor Club at the university. A had her own snowshoes, a Christmas present from last year. We wanted to spend as much time in the great doors as possible. I was excited to breathe the mountain air. We left around 9 a.m.

We stopped at the information booth for trails. A talked to the man behind the counter. She told him we wanted to be out for at least half the day. Off we went down the highway toward Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. Because A didn’t have snow tires, we didn’t go far. In fact, we didn’t go to the suggested snowshoeing trails.

We found a hiking trail just inside the park. We strapped on our snowshoes and off we went. I took the lead. Perfect weather. We didn’t get very far before A had to stop. She had worn the wrong boots. Back to the car we went. A wanted to go somewhere else where there was less elation. I told her this probably wasn’t possible because we were in the mountains.

We headed back on the highway toward Calgary. We found another trail. A swapped her boots and we were off again. I took the lead again. Shortly after Al was hot, uncomfortable and thirsty. Thankfully her boots were better. I was getting a little frustrated with the “I am slow because xxxxx” and “I need to stop to xxxx” so increased my pace. I had overdressed too. No point in complaining. We were in the mountains.

I could have stayed out for hours. All in all we spent roughly two hours on the trails. I was a little frustrated but I have to remember not everyone is at the same fitness level. Life is too short to be annoyed with someone over some thing so trivial.
