Challenging WOD Wednesday

I was nervous when I read this WOD on Ignite’s website. Front squats, lunges and rowing?? I am not the fastest rower. In fact I’m likely the slowest in the box. I can’t seem to find my rhythm. So to row 1,000 metres before and after doing a bunch of other tough exercises was definitely not on my To Do list.
I nearly skipped. But I had missed Monday and Tuesday because of work commitments so I really had no excuse. Surprisingly there was a large class at 8 a.m. Because there’s not enough rowers, three people had to wait until the rowers were free. I was the last person off the rower of the first group by about 35 seconds.

I picked up some time on the lunges walks and kettlebell swings. But the front squats were tough. I shared a (75 pound) bar with another lady. She would do 5 squats. I would do 5 squats and so on until we finished our set of 25.

From there I moved onto the box jumps. I got over my fear of using a 20 inch box last week. But I didn’t think I had it in me to do it in the WOD. Neither did Dave who is always so encouraging (not so much) and so I stuck to the smaller and wider box. Again I found my rhythm and made up some time. At one point I nearly jumped over the box. Oops!

Finishing with another round of 500 metres, I thought my arms were going to fall off. I know that’s a sign that I am still rowing with poor technique. I heard from several people rowing is all legs. I need to practice.
My time? 13:42. I am pretty happy I survived. I try not to let it bother me that I was the last name AGAIN on the whiteboard.
