Walk this way or Get out of the way

Before I ran, I walked. In my pre-Alberta days, I walked everywhere. I didn’t have a car so I walked to the bus stop. I walked to the subway. I walked to the shopping centres for grocery or other necessities. I walked for exercise. Oh yes, I was a walker.

Since I bought a car and I became a marathon runner, I don’t walk that much. It’s sad really. I used to do some of my best thinking while I put one foot in front of another. Plus I would get up to speed on the latest news and happenings around the world with some of my favorite podcasts.

I needed fresh air and exercise. I’ve been getting slightly squirrelly. Sure I’ve gone to CrossFit all week but I feel like I haven’t been as active as I should. This morning I set out for a brisk walk downtown. I needed out. This was a busy week at work. Next week should be more of the same. Time to turn off the brain.

Headphones in my iPhone, I geared up to listen to Jian Ghomeshi CBC’s Q. I listened to one episode before I stopped for a light snack at City Roast. The place was packed. It was loud. I didn’t stay long because I was in one of those moods where I just wanted to enjoy the silence.

It was chilly. I quickened my pace and nearly took off in a jog to get home. I was such a wimp. When I got home I stretched and used the lacrosse balls. Legs were tight. But I feel great! Life is good!
