Setting big goals: Qualifying for Boston

Right so I have run all my scheduled races for 2012. So now what? Good question. I think I will curl up in a ball and cry. Ha ha. Actually it’s my time to pick new races and set new goals for next season. I’m also taking a month hiatus from running. That’s right I will not lace up my sneakers until Nov.7. Time to hit reset on my body.

I’m not waiting until January to make any resolutions. I decided that in 2013 I will attempt to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Now that I have a few marathons under my belt, I feel it’s an obtainable goal. I just have to work for it. I have to run a 3:45 marathon. There I said it. Big goal. But you know what? The more I think about and the more I run the more I know I can do it.
My training started yesterday with CrossFit. This winter I will go to CrossFit four days a week (weather depending). Four days. I am already sore from two mornings in a row. I can only imagine what I will like when the alarm sounds at 5;19 a.m. on Wednesday. Repeat – what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.

  1. I am starting my running hiatus on Monday after my half marathon this weekend. And I started weight training a few weeks ago and know that soreness you are going through. Looking forward to following your training for your BQ. You can totally do it!

  2. Thanks Robin. How long are you breaking? I think a month is plenty. I want to run 40 km on my birthday to celebrate turning 40 (Nov. 29).
