Time to shift gears: CrossFit time!

I dusted off my CrossFit journal and turned to my last workout. It was dated Sept. 20. If I needed anymore motivation to get up at 5:15 a.m. this was it. Mind you, I haven’t been slacking all this time. I was tapering and running a marathon.

Now that my running season is officially over it’s time to shift gears and focus on CrossFit. I set my alarm and went to bed at a reasonable hour. I glanced at my iPhone at 4:47 a.m. Great, I thought, I still have 33 minutes before my alarm goes off. Except it didn’t. I mistakenly set my alarm for p.m. instead of a.m. Grrrrr! Don’t you hate when that happens?

I was peeved because I told Kevin I would be at the 6 a.m class for sure! I woke up at 6:17 a.m. I dressed immediately and headed to the box. (I am going to use the CrossFit lingo now. Box = Gym) I knew there was a 7 a.m. class so I decided to go to that one. Besides I wanted to apologize to Kevin for being a loser.

There were two of us in the OnRamp class. We started with 5 RM of press. I am not a fan of the press. Like most I do not have a lot of strength (yet) in my upper body. Seriously, how often do you lift stuff above your shoulders?

I managed to squeeze out 45 lbs of 5 RM. I should be stronger now. Months ago I was at 50 lbs but with my shoulder setback and break, I have not progressed. Not too concerned. I know if I keep at it I will succeed.

Our WOD:
3 rounds
200 metre run
15 sit ups
10 push press

Looks easy enough, right? I finished in about 6:40. I wasn’t trying to kill myself. The last set of push press was challenging! The regular WOD (at 6 a.m.) involved lunges, squats and back extensions. And the strength was press. Maybe it was a good thing I slept in.
