I dragged my butt out of bed around 6 a.m. I drank some coffee and forced down some quinoa and a smoothie. I was determined to run solid this morning. I was focused and ready to go.
The plan was to run 30 kms. I had to get a long run in. Time is ticking. I run Kelowna in three weeks. I don’t have a lot of time to make up mileage and to taper.
I started very slow and stayed very slow throughout my run. I ran several out and backs so I wouldn’t be shortchanged on mileage. Nothing sucks more than being 200 or 300 metres short of a long run when you’re standing at your front door.
Time flew by. I changed up my playlist so I didn’t want to pull out my hair mid-run. I couldn’t believe it when I glanced at my Garmin and it read 20 kms. Only 10 more kilometres to go! It was then my right foot decided to really hurt. I mean it was aching throughout the first bit but it got worse the longer I ran.
I hate being injured. Hate it. Hate it. At least I do have some time to rest up before the big day. I am going to stay strong and get through this. The last 10 kms were slow and painful. I gave up any thoughts I had of running a fast 10k from the get go. Slow and steady won this long slow distance run.
I soaked my feet in an ice bucket when I got home. Ice always seems to do the trick. My feet and legs felt much better within a couple hours.
Bring on a good night’s rest.
