Alone at CrossFit with the trainer

The 6 a.m. CrossFit class is a small one. It’s not very often, there’s more than 6 people. Sometimes there’s only 2 or 3. Who wants to work out at 6 a.m.? My biggest fear is being the only person to show up.

Twice it has happened  โ€“ once a few weeks ago and this morning. Now the normal person might count their lucky stars and think, “Bonus a free one on one session.” I am the opposite. I hate that all the attention is on me.

Wednesday WOD:
9 thrusters
12 wall balls
15 burpees
30 double unders (or 90 single skips)
(3 rounds)

Looks innocent enough, right? Before the WOD, our strength was the front squat. I’ve been happy with my squats lately so this was not too much of an embarrassment.

Because my shoulder is still not 100 per cent healed, the thrusters and the burpees were no friends of mine. Normally I doing thrusters because I feel so explosive and strong. I didn’t this morning. The burpees were yuck. Coach Dave said the combination of burpees and double unders were probably why there were no shows this morning.

The last round of wall balls were ugly. I don’t think I hit the line on half of them. I was dripping with sweat when I finished. Glad I went to class. And it wasn’t as scary being alone with the trainer. We had a good chat. He told me I have to try maxing out on some of my lifts in order to see more gains. I agree. I just need to gain more confidence. It’s slowly coming.
