This is how I start my long weekend – in a sling. Not fun. I woke up in the middle of the night in utter agony. My left shoulder was screaming bloody murder. I couldn’t move my arm. Scared and freaked out, I didn’t know what was happening.
The pain came out of nowhere. Now that I’ve had time to think, I believe it’s DOMS from Wednesday’s WOD. Remember this entailed a lot of burpees. Makes sense that I just overworked the muscle. And now I have to pay the healing price.
I took a Aleve hoping it would do the trick. It didn’t work. I tossed and turned for two hours trying to get comfortable enough to sleep. I decided to drive to the pharmacy for sleeping pills. I managed to drive the 5 minutes to the drugstore. Steering the wheel was so painful. I tried to drive with one hand. Thankfully there were no coppers around. They would have pulled me over for my erratic driving. The pills didn’t work. I was still in agony at 7 a.m. when I called @suzesilver and begged her to drive me to emergency.
Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long to see the doctor. The examination was very very painful.I was crying hysterically. Thankfully the doctor was very kind and comforting. He took his time to explain I had inflammation around my shoulder area. We took an x-ray and everything was good. No surgery required. The cure? Sling. Rest. Ice. Pills. Physiotherapy.
He prescribed two strong painkillers. Yes. They started working immediately. I felt so much better. I didn’t go into work either. I managed to get about five hours of sleept his afternoon. I’m feeling a little better but the pain is still there.
I took a shower and removed the sling. But now I can’t get it on properly. Oh the joys of living alone. It’s going to be a long weekend. Indeed.
