I started out at 8 a.m. to beat the heat. Didn’t work. The sun was beating down before I even ran three steps. One goal for this long run was to find shade and lots of it. I started across the CP bridge when I tried to program my iPod as I ran.
For whatever reason, I could not change it to podcasts. I wasn’t in the mood for music. I wanted to listen to the latest podcast from Trail Runner Nation. I stopped to figure it out. After 5 minutes I gave up. I continued on with my run when I had another problem to deal with.
My shorts and tank were both riding. I was exposing lots of flesh and it was uncomfortable. My SpiBelt was also giving me grief. Everything was going bonkers. I stopped again. I adjusted my shorts and tank, and tightened my Spibelt. I need a new Garmin strap. It hangs loosely on my wrist ready to fall off. I tried to tighten it as best as I could. The constant moving was driving me bonkers too.
I continued on. I still fiddled with my iPod because I just wasn’t feeling the music. Finally after 4k, I was able to listen to the podcast. Only then I realized I had not downloaded the most recent episode. Bloody hell. I thought what the hell I would just listen to it again. This run that I was really looking forward to was not off to a good start.
So finally I am on my way running and listening to the podcast when I get a sudden desire to pee. I was in a pretty open place but I managed to find some bushes to relieve myself. When I finished my business, I looked up and there’s some guy on a bike driving by. Thankfully he just turned his head away quickly. Top of the morning to you.
From there everything turned around for the better. Gear sorted. I was in my groove. My hamstring started screaming around 14k. I’m convinced the little bastard is the root of all my woes in my left leg. I ran fierce in my last two kilometres. I felt great. I ignored the wimpers from my left hamstring. I will show you. Ha!
Now here I am rolling out my legs and drinking a cold glass of water. Thankful to be done my long run before 10 a.m. and out of the blazing heat. Good run overall. The gear stuff was annoying but it worked itself out in the end.
