It’s 5:01 p.m. Picture me in my new black running skirt with blue trim, wearing a pink Newton visor and an greyish tech shirt. Oh yes, and my snazzy blue Saucony. I am THE runner.
I set out in the direction of Three Mile Bend. I knew it was a simple 10 km out and back. Just what I needed. Simplicity. And no counting of kilometres. I wanted to ease into my run. Four CrossFit sessions, a trail run, speed work and CFE were not kind to my body this week.
Despite the overload, my legs felt pretty good. Mostly it was my huffing and puffing that was the problem. Thank goodness I have a month to work that out before the Sylvan Lake Half-Ironman. Catherine is convinced we’re going to win so I have to focus on killing the half. With that being said, I have to stay focused on my running.
It’s so easy to get caught up in a new thing, like CrossFit. This week I was tired. I don’t want to make that mistake again. I don’t want to get that I am so tired I can’t run. What would be the point of that? I started CF to get stronger and to improve my running. Already I can see small changes in my body. Not sure if my running has improved. We’ll see the rest of the summer. I have two more half-marathons before my marathon in October. Knock on wood I stay injury free.
This coming week should work itself out. Our CFE session ends on Thursday. That means I will have my Monday and Thursday nights free again. I’ll be able to tweak my schedule to fit every thing in.

Before I forget I wanted to tell you about last night’s CFE session.
Our workout:
Run: 5 minutes (almost at max)
Rest: 2:30
Run: 6 minutes
Rest: 3 minutes
Run: 7 minutes
This was challenging. I was trying to maintain an even pace but I was all over the track. I’m not sure if my form was any better. Jeff didn’t yell at me too much so I take it as a good sign. I liked this workout. My quads felt heavy before I started and they were completely loosen up by the time we left the track.
