Let the marathon training begin!

Started my week with a 6 a.m. CrossFit class. It was pouring rain – again. When will this rain ever stop? As part of our WOD we ran around the block in the pouring rain before finishing our workout with five minutes of DUs. Good times. I wore my beautiful white and pink Eddie Bauer raincoat. I was styling.

Later on I had my last CFE class with Talbot. We went through a few drills before he filmed us for a final time on our technique. All of us made progress since the first week. I still have a little issue with my arm swing in front of my body. The problem is when I swing my arms in front my body follows. The video clearly showed my feet turning over. Not good.

I wore my new road shoes. They felt amazing. So light. I love them. I don’t want to get too excited and wear them too much. I’ve heard over and over that I have to ease into wearing minimalist shoes. Point taken.

This week I officially start my marathon training with Audrey. We’re following a training plan from this month’s Runner’s World, Your Best Marathon Plan.
The plan has us on our feet 5 days a week. What’s interesting is that we start marathon pacing at week 5. We gradually build up from 2 miles running at marathon pace to 8 miles. There’s Yasso 800’s and mile repeats. Oh my! Rest days are Mondays and Thursdays.

Of course, I will slightly adjust the plan to my liking. I am going to have my work cut out for me. But it’s going to be worth it!

Week 1:

  • Monday – CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance
  • Tuesday – 3 miles easy
  • Wednesday – 5 miles hills/CrossFit
  • Thursday – CFE/9 miles LSD
  • Friday – 5 miles/CrossFit
  • Saturday – CrossFit
  • Sunday – Rest

I have to work this weekend so I am switching my LSD run to Thursday.
