Calgary Marathon Countdown: Five days

I only need to glance at my refrigerator door to be reminded of what I’m doing on Sunday. (As if I needed the reminder).

The official countdown in my mind has begin. In five days I will run my first marathon on Canadian soil and my second marathon. This week I will concentrate on quality sleep, hydrating and eating well.

I’m not going to let myself get anxious or worried about my training. On one hand, I don’t think I have put in enough long runs in the last month. My training seems to be loosely goosey in some aspects. As well I am dealing with a few minor injuries.

But on the other hand, I feel stronger then I was before the NYC marathon. I’ve done pretty good in the three races that I’ve run so far this year. I’m a little leaner. And my pacing seems to be much better. All that has to count for something, right?

It was so fun watching the marathoners finish at the Woodys race on Sunday. I kept thinking this will be me next week. Then I shuddered. I was thrilled to see Kathy, Brent, Michelle, and the two Marks finish their first marathon. And most of all Tara to finish her first 10k race. I’m so proud of Tara. She was in my learn to run clinic in January. (I’m trying to convince her to do the Canadian Derby half-marathon in August… we’ll see how that goes.).

Now the most important part of any race preparation is figuring out what to wear. I’ve narrowed down my choices to my black adidas running shirt or my black/pink running skirt. On top I’ll either wear a black singlet or a white one. I’ll definitely wear my white compression socks. I’ll stick with my ruby red mizunos. Decisions. Decisions.

What do you think?

  1. I didn't know you could get a 'running skirt'… is it like a tennis skirt? How about 'bedazzling' the outfit and glue a bunch of sequins to it? Real classy, no? 😉
