We got started right away with some dynamic stretching, pushups and three easy laps around the track. There were four of us so I ran beside Brenda who I chatted with in Monday night’s class. She’s super nice. I felt good after running to the track. Both my legs have been wonky all week. If it isn’t my right calf screaming bloody murder, it’s my right one.
Following the jog, we did a few quick 40 metre pick ups before we moved on to our one mile time trial. We were instructed to run with “maximum effort.” Thankfully my legs did not let me down. I switched my Garmin to miles and I set off around the track.
I tried to run a slower two laps and pick up the pace in the second half. I ran comfortably hard for the first three laps. I glanced at my Garmin as I headed for the home stretch. I finished in a blistering 7:28.
According to my pace chart, if I kept this pace up in a 10k, my time would be 46:24 and my time for a half-marathon would be 1:37:53 and get this, for a marathon โ 3:15:46. I can only dream.
We finished with skill. We practiced lifting our foot properly. Thankfully Jeff didn’t rip us apart on our terrible form. The time flew by. I hope I retrained all this technique. Jeff said we can expect our calves to hurt over the next few weeks as we learn to run on the balls of our feet. I was thinking this might explain why my calves have been hurting more than usual lately.
Good session, overall. I am really happy it’s such a small group. The way the clinic is set up is pretty cool too. Keeps things interesting.
