I know my form sucks. I can see it on the face of the CrossFit trainers. It’s probably a good idea I can’t see myself. The philosophy behind the “no mirror” rule is the trainers want people to feel the proper form and movements.
I asked the trainer this morning about it after hearing someone say, she wished she could watch herself in a mirror.
Without mirrors, he said, people will develop better body awareness. Makes sense, right? Besides they will focus on technique instead of gazing at themselves in the mirrors. (Not that I would ever do that.)
I struggled to get out of bed this morning. My legs were tired. The rain was coming down hard. Today was a good of a day as any to stay under the blankets.
I contemplated skipping the workout and letting my legs recuperate. I waited until the very last minute to get dressed and run out the door.
Thankfully squats weren’t a big part of today’s session. Our group of four worked on the press. I moved up 5 pounds from last Saturday. That felt good. Pull ups, kettle bell swings and rowing were a part of our WOD. I love how the workouts are never the same. My muscles must love it too. After our WOD we practised the overhead squat. The trainer said I am clearly stronger in one shoulder than the other. He said eventually the two sides will even out in strength. Good times.
