For this long slow distance run, I met Karen and Mark x 2 at the Running Room. We ran the same route Karen and I did last Saturday. We just added an additional kilometre before the turn around point.

This week I was more awake and hydrated than I was last week. Still I found the first half slightly challenging. I think it took me about an hour before I actually woke up. Is there such a thing as sleep running?
Our pace was all over the map. This happens when you run with more than one person. We ran between 6:10 and 6:30 for the first half. We ran up two massive hills at the 14 km and 18 km marks that were killer.
I tried to run at a slow even pace. But the slower I ran the harder it was. So I just booted up the hill. I huffed and puffed all the way. I did the same on the way back.
Surprisingly I got my second wind at about the 20 km mark. My legs felt strong and I wanted to pick up the pace. I think we were all feeling good. It was between the 25 km and 28 km mark that my left leg was starting to moan.
The final 4 kms were pretty much a blur. I was so tired of running so I just gave what I had left in the tank for the last kilometre. I think Mark felt the same way and he sped up beside me and we killed the last kilometre. Yes, that was probably not wise after running for 3 hours.
Now I’ve stretched, eaten and napped. Ready to start the next training week!
