Sunday morning run club

I love Sunday morning group runs. Going to bed early Saturday evenings is not much fun but it’s worth it.
I was part of the Red Deer Running Room’s inaugural Run Club or Sunday group run.
I can’t lie. I secretly wished my car wouldn’t start or my tires would get stuck in the snow. Alas everything was good to go.
There were four of us – Lori, Nick and Brent. I think the crappy weather and roads kept the runners away. I have a feeling the club’s numbers will explode in the coming weeks.
Hitting the trails with other runners was just what I needed.

Now I can’t run with people all the time but at times it’s just want I need.
If you are part of a regular run group, you know about the numerous benefits of training with others. Namely there’s the motivation and the accountability factors. Throw in the sense of camaraderie and community developed over the many hours on the road.
Everyone knows running is the ultimate individual pursuit, however, there are times when you need a little encouragement from your friends.

Group run benefits:

  • Motivation on the days when you want to stay home
  • Encouragement to run longer, faster etc
  • Build a sense of community
  • Enjoy a little friendly competition
  • Safety for those worried about running alone in the evenings or in unfamiliar areas
  • Meet new friends

  1. Come to St. Albert for a Sunday run! Just like old times.

  2. Hey rockieschick, I wouldn't worry about that! Everyone is supportive. I'm the slowest runner ever and someone always waits for me!
