I have awe-inspiring 279 runners on my Twitter runners’ list. Most live in either Canada, the United States and parts of Europe. It doesn’t matter which corner of the world they live in. Runners are an amazing and supportive bunch.

I joined Twitter in 2008 mostly for work. But I also saw the opportunity to connect with like-minded runners from around the world. Particularly when I started running a year later. It’s been great. I’ve learned so much about marathon and training. I’ve also come to the conclusion, I need to move to a warmer climate.

Yes I have “real-life” running pals. And they inspire me to no end. However, I like reading the tales told in 140 characters or less everyday. I like to read whether @therunningwench has overcome her injuries or @sandystahl has made it in the NYC lottery. It’s always fun to read tweets from others like @Shufflersunite @Karen_Karnis and many, many more!

I’ve also discovered other wonderful running blogs from running tweeters like @sugarmagnolia70 @autopilotlegs @cherylkathleen @runnergirltrain @aHappyPace and @frayedlaces

On days when running is the last thing I want to do, I just glance at my list. We’ve all been there. The support is wicked amazing.

When I ran the NYC marathon I was completely blown away by the well wishes on Twitter. I’ll do the same for those I know running in this week’s Rock ‘n Roll Las Vegas marathon.

Of course I will never meet most of these people. That’s fine with me. Just keep the tweets coming. You can follow my runners list on Twitter by clicking here.
